El AVR-1709 se caracteriza por 7 canales de gran potencia que fácilmente puedes ser configurados en un sistema de 7.1, o alternativamente crear un entorno en 5.1 en una sala principal, mientras, al mismo tiempo, es capaz de llevar dos altavoces en otra habitación. El AVR-1709 posee tres entradas HDMI con la última especificiación 1.3 y una salida HDMI de igual característica que puede escalar las imágenes en HD a 1080p. Posee a su vez tres salidas de video componentes de HD para mejorar la señal de video. Para conseguri un grado óptimo de calidad de sonido, el Audyssey MultEQ la medida acústica y el sistema de optimización mide la respuesta total del altavoz (en hasta seis puntos de medida diferentes) y adapta la señal de audio para mayor equilibrio(saldo) tonal natural que suena en todas partes del espacio.
Y, el AVR-1709 es uno del primero en ofrecer el sistema de nivelación de Volumen Dinámico de Audyssey, que elimina la alteraciín de columen que se produce entre programas de televisión y publicidad, así como Audyssey EQ Dinámico para asegurar el equilibrio(saldo) tonal, aún en niveles de volumen bajos. Proporciona dos mandos a distancia – un para el espacio principal, y un segundo mando a distancia fácil de usar para el segundo control de la zona de audio.
